over the edge.
my show monday will probably not be happening since i will be at this:

to make up for my bail out i attempted to create a podcast last night on my computer. but then garageband made my harddrive go nutty and it crashed. therefore i'm just going to post the playlist and you can piece it together if you feel so compelled.
2007 has been a monumental year for me. i don't think i will ever fully absorb all that i have experienced and accomplished. i am so grateful for the adventures i took, the people i met, and the bands that took me under their wings and showed me the most sincere hospitality, and it only makes sense that i end the year where it all started...california.
it should also be down that all songs on this show were released in 2007, and 14 of the 18 bands i saw live.
to the bands:
1. classless reunion- broadway calls
2. you're the canyons- first to leave
3. camel bucks- comadre
4. the golden ghost- slingshot dakota
to december snows, letting go, and top shows of 2007:
5. christmas lights- paul baribeau
6. the lord of the ring & his fascist time keepers- des ark
7. the dream left behind- graf orlock
8. keep the car running- the arcade fire
to tour, inevitable heartbreak, and reunions related to such topics:
9. ring me to sleep- woods
10. jackson underground- sundowner
11. leave me (like you found me)- wilco
12. see him again- the ergs!
to some of the best bands i finally started appreciating in 2007:
13. breadwinner- smoke or fire
14. relative surplus value- the weakerthans
15. hurry up- meneguar
16. back in your head- tegan & sara
and, of course, to the music, because that's what brought us all together in the first place:
17. the uttica stare- the riot before
18. the boat- chuck ragan
and that's that.
after exams end on friday i'll be in new york.
the following week, dc.
the following week through the end of january, all over california.
see you in 8 weeks.
probably the same time.
definitely the same place.

12/03/2007 recap
on friday night chuck ragan said that music is the one thing that keeps our heads above water. and it's true; it is the one thing that will never stray from us. we will stray from it, someday. someday we'll go deaf, whether it's from too many shows or just old age. music will never leave you stranded. never.

10/29/2007 recap
the past two weeks have been really hectic (what week isn't it seems...), but it's been pretty rad, too.
saw some of my favorite bands from the summer (the lawrence arms/the falcon/sundowner/the weakerthans/avail/smoke or fire) plus bands that make me feel awesome when they play CCAS (slingshot dakota/endless mike and the beagle club).
radioshow-wise i don't really know what was up with this week. originally it started as halloween themed but then kind of turned into weird thrash/crust/heavy influenced because it's dark and creepy...
1) Vampire Fast Code Ver.15- Ink & Dagger
2) On Our Losses & Our Tears- Trainwreck
3) BTK Blues- Pink Nasty
4) Secession- Requiem
5) The Inner Beast- From Ashes Rise
6) The Trials!- Comadre
7) Farewell to Words- ENVY
8) Burial Suit- Majority Rule
9) Psychological Warfare- Integrity
10) Border Crossing- Graf Orlock
11) The Lazyboy 500- The Falcon
12) The Boogie Monster- Gnarls Barkley
13) S.S. Exploder- The Nation of Ulysses
14) Cowardly Feeding Silence- Takaru
15) Sugar Industry- Kill the Man Who Questions
16) Aleska- June Paik
17) They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!- Sufjan Stevens
18) Big Top Halloween- The Afghan Whigs
cool.
uh, it's november.
ridiculous.

10.15.2007.
this past saturday was the one year anniversery of my friend jamie's death. she was one of the first people i met when i came to goucher, we lived on the same hall, and only a handful of us knew she had cancer. it was as if one day she was here and the next, gone.
everyone copes with traumatic events differently. i chose to reflect at my own life and make positive changes. the catalyst at my core for the way i live my life, it was my relationship with jamie and is my relationship with her after her death. i admire her for her decisions to live her life. if we fear death, we don't live. she lived. the impact this experience had on me was truly tremendous, and continues to play a major role in my life.
i have done so many things in the past year with my life. i think i found the proper balance between living in the now and working on the foundation for my future. just gotta keep pushing forward even when the seas get rough.
so this show was about voice. support. living. changing.
to anyone who has ever found something positive rise from the ashes of a tragedy.

17. Depth Perception- Engine Down
18. Save Our Ship- Broadway Calls
19. Walking to Do- Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
we will not be live next week because i'm seeing the lawrence arms. i've been waiting so long to see them. and every other superband related to them. american steel...okay. there are tons of things going on this weekend in baltimore, i.e. "punkin' carving" @ the frisby house on thursday night. plus on saturday and sunday there is the radical book fair...lemuria/fake problems/endless mike and the beagle club @ ccas on saturday, the menzingers/slingshot dakota show @ ccas on sunday. so good.
so tune in one the 29th. we'll be back live then. cool.

i'm in yr studioz, bein a dude. recap 10/08/2007
nick and joe came to hang out in the studio once again and brought some jams to play, plus a new friend! his name is josh. he's the new drummer for Surroundings. it's a completely different feeling this semester when i have 3+ people in the studio for every show compared to last semester, when it was just me. and sometimes amanda. being awkward. a couple of other djs stopped by the show as well; julian, who hosts Verrückt Radio 12-1am EST wednesday night/thursday mornings stopped in and attempted to play a nuclear assault song on cassette. and then royce, my old hallmate and host of Conservative Talk Radio, which is on right before my show on monday nights 8-9pm EST, decided to grace us with his presence. we had some good laughs for sure.

rabbit rabbit recap 10/01/2007
30 listeners? i don't believe it. the computer crashed right less than a minute before i went on air, hence the late beginning. we rolled right on through the technical difficulty and had a grand ol' time. we had quite the handful of guests in the studio. Joe and Mitch of Surroundings and our mutual friend Nick came up to Goucher and kicked it in the studio with me last night. Surroundings has a biiiiig show this thursday, OCTOBER 4, at the Ottobar in Baltimore with Baroness and Pulling Teeth. Check it out.
God really does enjoy sending me text messages these days. It's a party.

13. Boy Wonder- Nakatomi Plaza
14. Silly Girl- Descendents
15. Get the Bullet Out- New Mexican Disaster Squad
Hey, it's october. When did that happen? I've been having a rather difficult time wrapping my head around everything that's going on. Bummer, because 2007 has been an absolutely incredible year. Turning 20? For the first time, not sure I'm ready for that yet. Distance between friends once again slashed my heart; i forget how surreal it is to see people in my town who live 3,000 miles away or talk to someone everyday and it's still another three months until i settle down out west with them for a few weeks (or tour...). But january is still far, far, far away.
Until next week, stay rad.
yours truly,
KSR.

there was constant wave of guests in the studio last night. chris, amanda, and my friend Ian, who shamelessly promoted his band The Skanarchists on air last night, spent a great deal of time talking about animal testing and the g-o-d. i've been receiving bible texts on my cell phone a few times a week for the past couple weeks, and yes, i plan on reading them out on the air.

the prime time of your life.
stay tuned for biiiiig updates on goucher student radio and my show this semester!!!

+Reinacting Mammal Exhibit at DC's Natural History Museum

+East Coast Fun Fest in Baltimore

+Photoshoot at CCAS for Baltimore's City Paper

+WEST COAST'S EAST COAST TAKEOVER IN NYC!!!
the last few weeks of summer ruled! comadre/graf orlock rolled into town at the end of july and put on one of the most amazing punk shows in recent years in dc. ***AWARD FOR BEST SUMMER PUNK SHOW 2007*** it took me two days to recuperate and it was awesome, minus the 2 days of recuperation. also went up to nyc for west coast east coast takeover. came up to baltimore a few times for ccas jamz (photo shoot!!), cliff diving and nature walks in thunderstorms with cute bands, house shows, y'know, good times. dc gave me good vegan baked goods and ethnic food and good friends who let you pass out on their bed and use their deep fryer for home-made donuts...all things not essential to the KSR blog but kept me busy while off air. but i'm wayyyy excited to begin the new semester; i have tons of new music in store and can't wait to share it with you! in the meantime, here are some lists of albums/artists that got me through the past 4 months + 2007 so far!!

a much delayed end-of-semester recap + summer news
i never posted the last two playlists of the semester. i'm sorry. here they are:
04/30/2007 - songs that i often forget about but really love when i spontaneously put the record on:
1. Hit 'Em High - B Real, Busta Rhymes, Coolio, LL Cool J & Method Man (Space Jam OST)
2. Giant - Matthew Good Band
3. The City - Dismemberment Plan
4. Army of Me - Björk
5. Kids Get Cut - Meneguar
6. My Slumbering Heart - Rilo Kiley
7. Why Is My Sleeping Bag A Ghetto Muppet? - Chin Up Chin Up
8. Killing a Camera - Braid
9. Give Me a Fuckin' Break - Limp Wrist
10. Detonation - Strike Anywhere
11. A Gentleman Caller - Cursive
12. Getting Over the Others - Ruiner
13. Comedy of Christ - Pg.99
14. Someone Else's Song - Wilco
15. Place to Be - Nick Drake
16. Loretta's Scars - Pavement
The Dismemberment Plan Reunion Show inspired this playlist a great deal. The Dismemberment Plan was one of the first local bands i was exposed to, and they played a huge role in my initial involvement in the dc scene, prior to all this hardcore/scene political nonsense. I hadn't been to the Black Cat in a very long time and found myself having a sincerely good time at a show in DC, something that stopped occuring for a while.
05/07/2007 - LAST SHOW OF THE SEMESTER! Summer songs + summary of freshman year.
1. Rather Be Dead - Refused
2. Like a Future With No Friends - Small Brown Bike
3. Things We Say - Gorilla Biscuits
4. The Purple Bottle - The Animal Collective
5. Let's Go Get Some Cokes - The Faction
6. Amoeba - Adolescents
7. Circle Pits and Karate Kicks - The Spark
8. Binaire et Lisible - Amanda Woodward
9. Look Back and Laugh - Minor Threat
10. The World At Large - Modest Mouse
11. No More Fighting Cats, OK? - Des Ark
12. Bruno Is Orange - Hop Along, Queen Ansleis
13. One Hundred Resolutions - Sundowner
14. No Cars Go - The Arcade Fire
That weekend I went up to Philly and visited one of my best friends from high school, plus saw The Arcade Fire at the Tower Theatre. One of the best shows of the year, and within the top 10 i've ever attended. i danced harder than I have at a show in a couple of years; drenched in sweat and gasping for air. Refused was an ode to my co-djs first semester on "Pump The Brakes!", Gorilla Biscuits because that was the first show I went to in Baltimore, The Spark because it's a critical Baltimore band + Mike Riley is one of my favorite people of all time. Hop Along, Queen Ansleis for Charm City Art Space, and Sundowner's cover of One Hundred Resolutions, because, well, it was our year for sure.
Freshman Year, especially spring semester, made me continually stoked on life. The summer has had it's ups and downs, a never-ending turbulent plan-making period, but it's turning out well. highlights so far:
the same weekend classes ended/i moved home, i traveled across the united states to the northwest to hang out with Broadway Calls, and incidentally The Riot Before (of Richmond, VA/good friends of CCAS!!) . Spent a couple days on the road, seeing the majority of the northwestern landscape. As south as Bend, OR and as north as Seattle, WA. The trip was an incredible opportunity for me to see more of the country, as well as create tighter bonds with friends I make through being a member of the punk community; it's such a vast community, yet very intimate at the same time. I made some great friends while i was out there, and everyday, I'm reminded about how awesome my life is. i came back to the dc area for a day and then took a roadtrip to chicago, saw propagandhi, now have sites set on that region of the united states (will most likely be my 2008 exploration). had a few shows in may and june, worked a lot. now i'm finally getting my driver's license and making the best of my time in my hometown. there are 5 weeks left in summer, and it's action packed. summer is going to end with a bang, that's for sure, although i can't wait to be back full-time in towson/baltimore!

04/23/2007 recap.
I was solo in the studio this past Monday. The weather was beautiful, so my playlist reflected that...not necessarily "beautiful" songs, but songs that reminded me of warm weather and smiling and being on top of my game, or "making it." 2006 was an incredibly difficult year for me, and quite a few of the songs I played were those that were inspirational and kept me pushing through. Others were people in musical form and memories and whatnot...
1. Teenage Wristband - The Twilight Singers
2. La Rupture - Yann Tiersen
3. The Reasons - The Weakerthans
4. Can't Wait One Minute More- CIV
5. Keep Moving - First to Leave
6. Between You and Me - The Ataris
7. Parked in the Parking Lot of Your Heart - Polar Bear Club
8. Feeling What I'm Thinking Now - Digger
9. Celebrated Summer - Hüsker Dü
10. Absinthe Party At The Fly Honey Warehouse - Minus The Bear
11. Penelope - Pinback
12. Sleep Tonight - Stars
13. Coney Island - Death Cab for Cutie
14. Unlisted Track - Jawbreaker
15. Album of the Year - The Good Life

04/09/2007 recap et al.
okay. so last week we were bumped off the air again because Bob Woodward was speaking at Goucher. Whatever. But! We're back on the air tonight! The weather is sooooo nice, so, tonight's playlist will be in spirit of that, i suppose!
Anyway, our last broadcasted show was 04/09. Quinn co-hosted with me, and for good purpose! The show was supposed to be "thrash attack" oriented. I believe these songs were played:
1. Siren's Song- Fighting Dogs
2. Polar Bear Club- Silent Majority
3. Burned- Caustic Christ
4. Silence- From Ashes Rise
5. Pass the Torch- Flickerflame
6. Secession- Requiem
7. Duck Butter, Then- Ultra Dolphins
8. Some Natures Catch No Plagues- Saetia
9. Rotten Kid- Graf Orlock
Everything was fine until Quinn found a stack of LPs in the corner of the studio. Will Smith's "Freakin It" LP single being one of them. so we played the house mix, then went into Blondie's "Heart of Glass (Disco Version)" plus some other messes from terrible albums. There were a lot of technical difficulties in-studio because I had never used the dj system before, nor put caller's on air. but everything worked out fine. My friend Matt from the band Broadway Calls called in from Canada, where they were on tour for the past two and a half weeks. We closed out the show with "Sonny" by New Found Glory, in memory of Dana Flax, who was hit by a car and died the previous week. She was a close friend to many of my fellow classmates/friends, and it's difficult going through another unexpected loss in our freshman class. It's another kind of heartache.
Death and my own mortality have been on my mind a lot lately, and, ironically (i guess?), it's made me more stoked on life everyday. Carpe diem. Love it while you got it, because we'll never have time like this again.
TONIGHT 8-9 PM EST.

Our most significant discussion was on punk rock hygeine, and how i was disqualified from being punk because i regularly brush my teeth and take showers, and apparently smell nice enough at 8:30 in the morning for Amanda to sit next to me in English class. alas...
we've also determined that a significant portion of our fan base is made up of our parents. awesome.
Ian had to do Passover business so he could not be with us this evening, but hopefully he'll be able to come soon!
see you next week!

recap of the past month and BACK ON AIR TONIGHT.
so after a show of being bumped for sports and then server complications the following week, i decided not to post playlists from those respective shows. i still kept it scream-free, playing new songs by explosions in the sky, the arcade fire, dinosaur, jr., and sufjan stevens. plus some rilo kiley, beirut, ted leo, william elliott whitmore, japanther, and ride.
two weeks ago patrick and greg came over to the station from towson and hung out and co-deejayed. i think the bananas, propagandhi, circle jerks, gorilla biscuits, 7 seconds, weston were all involved. they didn't give me a playlist. whatever. it was a good show, our dads listened, and, for all the bike punx out there, i ended with "bicycle race" by queen.
i've been on spring break for the past week, seeing explosions in the sky last saturday (front and center, probably one of the best shows of the year + best albums of the year).
spent the week in new york, spending too much money on records, and then came back to baltimore and did two shows this weekend at charm city art space, which, by the way, were hella successful.
SO TONIGHT. spring break recap show. i'll probably end up talking about the west coast (again), why i love baltimore, and songs that remind me of all my friends in new york. playlist and a real recap will be uploaded after the show.
SPRING IS HERE. UP THE MOTHAFUCKIN' PUNX.
two weeks ago patrick and greg came over to the station from towson and hung out and co-deejayed. i think the bananas, propagandhi, circle jerks, gorilla biscuits, 7 seconds, weston were all involved. they didn't give me a playlist. whatever. it was a good show, our dads listened, and, for all the bike punx out there, i ended with "bicycle race" by queen.

First KSR show of the Spring Semester! And this time I'm doing it all by myself. Playlist is pretty much what my show is about. I play a lot of different music and really enjoy it. Maggie co-hosted and talked about her squished penny collection, and I was more awkward than usual. I look forward to a great semester!
