10/27/2008 recap

Yesterday made me really really happy. Right before the show, I was at a presentation by Dr. David Lisak called "Confronting the Realities of Sexual Violence." This was one of the programs from the Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Initiative innovation grant last semester. I'm picturing mid-spring, with myself and Steve, Prof. Marguerite Hoyt, Chaplain Cynthia Terry, and Counselor Sharon Spector sitting around a table trying to figure out how we'll pull this together and make everything work and successful. And last night, six months later, having Merrick lecture hall filled with mainly students, and a lot of men, for Dr. Lisak's presentation. Not only coming to the presentation, but interacting, questioning, and staying after the program to join our taskforce. This is the beginning of a legacy and it is absolutely thrilling to see it so postiviely and enthusiastically embraced. We are building something that will shift the paradigm and change our culture.

Ari co-hosted last night's show with me and we certianly had a lot of talk about!

Last night was also the first time i had FISHSTICKS since elementary school. Apparently I did not fulfill the juicebox requirement, but HOLY FRIJOLES, fishsticks are delicious. mmmmmm.

During the juicebox discussion, my dad, cute as can be fact-checker for Kitchen Sink Radio, sent me three text messages:
1) There are 16 flavors of Juicy Juice
2) But only seven come in box size (ADDENDUM BY ME: ONLY SIX ARE 4.23oz FUN SIZE, SEVEN FOR LARGER 6.75oz JUICEBOX)
3) apple, berry, grape, kiwi-strawberry, orange-tangerine, punch, strawberry-banana (only available in larger juicebox)

We also found a copy of Disney's Alice in Wonderland on vinyl with a full color booklet and Ari read a small excerpt. We also determined that Ari may or may not be a good Sarah Palin for Halloween, but maybe that's too popular of a costume.

midterm mile 10/14/2008

MY BEST FRIEND FOREVER was home for his midsemester break, so he came up on Monday to join me for my radioshow! It ruled! Matching tattoos, family portraits, and photobooths still to come.

Ari and Emily also stopped by the studio in the midst of our midterm hell. Ari and Alex fought over the greatness of Moby Dick and what I found out in Accouting today was called the "dead cat" theory. So good.

It's autumn. This means lofi and slowcore all the time. The scarves are out, as are the frye boots and sweaters (I found a super obnoxious pink cardigan when I went home this weekend, AWESOME!). My goal is to be the best dressed this week, and so far I'm on a roll. Just wait until Thursday, I'm telling you.

My weekends over the past month have been absolutely outstanding, minus the fact that I've lost the ability to do any work, leaving me swamped on Mondays and Tuesdays, and usually Wednesdays, too. But it's about balance, yes? This weekend I rounded out my time at Charm City Art Space with a dance band from France, playing tourist in DC Saturday, Season opener of the Caps with my dad on Saturday night, leading into late night trips to College Park and move-in sleepovers with reemerging roots. And Sunday? A trip to Larriland Farms with my mom and two of my roommates, followed by the intramural season's concluding soccer tournament. You can check out photos on my flickr from Sunday.

I only have to put up with two more days of class and then I'm free for a five day weekend. Volunteering at MCASA (maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault Conference) on Friday, followed by a long weekend in PHILADELPHIA! Holler!

Oh, right, playlist:
1) The Radiator- Ida

5) I Hope- Laura
6) Alpha Centauri- Ecstasy of Saint Theresa
7) Calvary Song- Elliott
8) Treefort- Henry's Dress
9) Mistress- Red House Painters
